Yeah it's funny but markbass is not excluded so that's goods news.

Actually, they are.

SoLongJake 03-14-2013 01:01 PM

Seems like the list would be shorter if they listed what is included.

fenderhutz 03-14-2013 01:04 PM

So I can buy a toothpick. Thanks Guitar Center.

BIGEJ2 03-14-2013 01:05 PM

GC honors the coupon even on product listed on the exclusion list. You just have to call or stop by a store to get it. Same with MF, M123 and Zzounds.

No!

I just tried to put Markbass in my cart and applied the discount code and it worked.

I suspect that list would be their own store brands.

On a more serious note, if you talk to someone in person, they can generally be accommodating.

peteybass 03-14-2013 01:06 PM

They will often times apply the discount (just did it for me) to many things when you call, Live Chat or stop by in person. Still makes me smile.

I was looking for a DBX DriveRack and neither American Musical or ZZounds would match the price when I called. It is hit or miss depending on who you talk to.

BoomBoomOGTL 03-14-2013 01:09 PM

Why would it affect the manufacturer bottom line if GC sells their merch at a discount being the products have already been purchased at a given price by GC, prior to any discounts. It seems it's GC that's providing the discount (and taking the loss in revenue), not the manufactuer.

Some BS in the dealer contract, Im sure but still...

fenderhutz 03-14-2013 01:11 PM

You get a better deal by sending an email to forums@musiciansfriend.com anyway.

I think you're right. I dont see Acoustic on the exclusion list.

If it becomes generally known that a brand is sold at a greater discount than the average street price, it reduces the credibility of their street price and MSRP. In turn, this negatively affects their wholesale pricing and ultimately their profitability.

lmfreeman9 03-14-2013 02:16 PM

Plus one. And some of the margins are too small to allow for deep discounts.
I am not a fan of guitar center.
However it's not hard to see that they are hurting bad.
Since they are owned by Bain capital I'm not holding bake sales for them anytime in the near future

^ Truth.

Idiot Savon 03-14-2013 11:50 PM

I had heard that a lot of their Bain-generated debt comes due next month. I wonder if there'll be a fire sale?

ChadonBass 03-15-2013 09:29 AM

I've never had an issue with them accepting one of these promotions for any product they had in the store or online. I know I've purchased things made by people on the exceptions list.

I've never dealt with musiciansfriend. How do you convince them to give better deals? 20 percent off is pretty good.

blacklariat09 03-15-2013 09:34 AM

I was looking at that coupon code and called musicians friend and they matched it on an excluded item 150% per their price match policy.

troy mcclure 03-15-2013 09:34 AM

They never honor it on an used item.

j.kernodle 03-16-2013 10:51 AM

got them to honor it on a moog sub phatty by calling and talking to the salesman I always deal with.
