I appreciate you posting it! I'm very curious about the guys comment concerning the Sam Ash BF sale. I can't find their ad posted anywhere.

I don't know what their margin of profit is, whether it's Sam Ash or Guitar Center, but if you had a music company that operated like Sam's Wholesale Club or Fry's Electronics (maybe not, they're hit and miss) where they buy in bulk/volume and sell cheaper, they'd get more business.

GC and SA apparently only buy in bulk when it comes to entry level isntruments because that seems to be their target market. I guess I don't know enough about that type of business. To me, there are two ways to sell; sell a few at a high price, or sell a lot at a cheaper price and get more repeat customers, not to mention more new customers by word of mouth.

The new business model for the Bain companies is to flog marginal, low-price junk merchandise with high fake MSRPs at long "discount" so people with no money or sense will buy it. Trainloads of cheap guitar stands, terrible microphones and headphones, pathetic "lifestyle" crap, downsourced "entry level" instruments and amps, etc. etc.

I've been watching this trend for a year at least.

Real deals on real gear are all but over.

15% is good on street price of mid to high end priced items if you can get it(MIA fenders, ernieball, etc)... but I agree in general this sale doesn't make me want to buy something. If i can get 20-25 on some stuff I might think about it as I don't really need anything.

I think the Labor Day & Memorial Day list sales are their best sales of the year

Anyone considering buying new may want to check out this thread and contact Skaught (Scott). His post is the 7th one. I chimed in on the 9th. I went this route and can tell you I saved more (a lot more in one case) than 15% from GC.

15% off of any single item @ Musiciansfriend.com!

Good Luck!

"Used to be" is the more correct phrase.

They haven't had a single decent deal at my local GC at those sales in years. Maybe a loss-leader $29 dirtbox. Sad.

There's nothing I want at GC or most other "local" places. I just have higher end taste. Fortunately, the local store has Genz Benz.

Went to GC today because I won't make it to GC for Black Friday's 15% off. Asked them if they can take 15% off and they said sure. Well it might be only 15% off but Kudos for that. :P It is the 15% off coupon that says "15% off on Friday Only"
