Hofner Galaxie short scale CT bass, 208 Hello Music

Howdy,

I just picked up this from Hello Music. I tried the HM30NEW code and it worked and grabbed it for 178 shipped.

Youtube vid. Cool old vintage tone.

Probably China. I think Hofners lower end stuff is made there.

Hello Music is awesome. They listed an orange one of the same bass which I prefer the color of and they let me switch it no questions asked.

Cool company. Phone call took all of about three minutes.

I was somewhat tempted by that...

Very nice looking bass at what appears to be a good price.

Does it have the German pickups? Some of the cheap guitars do, some don't.

What color is that?

They look like the pickups in the violin/club basses.

Though I think those are the German pickups and I was going to go for it if they had them in blue, it finally sunk in that these were 30"ers. That's a deal-killer for me because the hassle and expense of getting the kind of strings I want that will actually fit. [sigh!]

Anyway, good luck with these! I have a couple of the Chinese Hofner solidbody guitars that are really nice. The Colorama Custom has the German "Diamond" mini-humbuckers and aside from epic neckdive is a splendid-sounding guitar. The Colorama is essentially the same axe but with dud Korean soapbars. The original German pickups make a BIG difference on these.

GO AHEAD, LAUGH!

I may be doing a video of a Stephan Remmler cover and a mint-blue Höfner would just be too perfect, so I called Hello and they had one blue one left.

So, I bought it purely as a prop. Heck with the strings, I'm not going to play it anyway.

[And yes, I know Stephan Remmler was famous for having no bass in his recordings.]

Won't regular short scale strings fit these?

After ~45 years, I've come to the conclusion there's no such thing as a "regular" bass string that predictably fits properly.

I want fairly heavy flats to try to get the tension up because it's short-scale, and they are expensive for short scales relative to buying, say, Fender 9050*s...especially if they don't fit! (regular Fender bass strings don't even properly fit Fender toploading basses, but I digress) Short scale flats start at about $30, which is a lot to waste on something you might not be able to use.

I've religiously avoided short scale basses because of this nuisance.

Hi no they are made in Korea. They sound great and are high output mini humbuckers. Thanks for the email
