I've posted my amberburst Q4 with EMGs on Portland craigslist for $250 the last two weeks and haven't had a single response. I think $280 is a fair price for the Q4 Bartolini considering it has a list price of $814 and normally sells for $519. Although I would guess he got it from Amazon for $139. He is using the same stock photo from Amazon.

I'm interested to know what people think is a fair value for this bass new? Personally I could never see myself paying more than $350-$400 new in a guitar shop and that would only have been before I developed my deal hunting skills. Now I'm too good at finding bargains to pay more than half price unless it is something very special. I wonder how many of these basses actually sell at the full price of $519?

There are certain brands that normally just have no resale power and Dean unfortunately is one of them.

I was following a discussion about this on another board about fairly nice guitars and basses that people simply could not get a single CraigsList bite on at any price, even in active markets, simply because of the brands. You can probably pick a few.

One wonders who buys these instruments the first time around.

I think it may be a regional thing, too. Out here you can't give away stuff from "pointy guitar" brands...even if they're not actually pointy. They're just stigmatized in too-Kool Kalifornia.

They seem to be going for a bit less than $300 on FleaBay as a Buy-It-Now...with no takers. So, those of you who want to flip the bargain-priced ones from Amazon may not get as much as you think. Maybe the market is "flooded" with cheap-os of this model. If it isn't it now, it certainly may be shortly......

I never expected to be able to sell a Dean at any price. I just thought it'd be an inexpensive way to try Bartolinis in my studio.

I didn't buy mine to resell. I got the standard Q4 and liked it but then the Q4 Bartolini came and I liked it much better. I listed the Q4 for $250 hoping to get $200-$220 for it. Which in my mind would have dropped the price I paid for the Q4 Bartolini to $60-$80. I honestly don't really care if my Q4 ever sells. For the $140 I paid it's worth it for a decoration.

I just put some heavy gauge Elixir's on my Q4 Bartolini and set it up to my liking. It really is a great bass. I would never go out and buy one for $520 but I do feel it is worth every penny of that price. It plays and sounds great. I'd like to try a blindfolded play test with a few friends and have them appraise it from feel and sound alone.
