Music123 now charging sales tax in California

Sign in to disble this ad
Music 123's corporate HQ has moved from Oregon to CA, so they now charge sales tax to folks in CA. I had Music 123 beat a price on a tuner I found on Amazon, but when I went to checkout, tax had been added. They hadn't done that on any of my previous orders so I contacted them and got the above explanation. It ended up being more expensive that the one I had them beat! Bummer! They were my favorite online retailer!

So just factor that in when chasing a Hot Deal there!

Nope. No tax. The item was coming from a vendor, not Amazon itself. I checked it on Amazon with a couple of different vendors of the same item.

Even if you hadn't paid Sales Tax you should have accrued and remitted Use Tax to CA anyway... Sinner.

Unfortunately I have to pay tax with Music 123, Musician's Friend and Guitar Center, and unfortunately these are the same companies that often have 10 or 15% off sales. Sam Ash, Zzounds, and American Musical do not charge me tax, but they rarely offer discounts (that I've seen). But definitely tax plays a factor in all my purchases. But be warned folks, tax is coming to everyone for all onlines sales, no matter what state they are in or you are in, so get ready. I just hope tax doesn't bite us little people doing business on Ebay.

There's no existing legal basis for this.
