Didn't mean to imply the budget was x2. Both stores carry what I need and I only need to buy from one or the other. I was hoping to buy before the year was out so we'll see. I doubt they want me using a 20% coupon on $2500 plus.

If the offers aren't good enough or they tell you to go jump, you can always wait for the next coupon.
That's a good idea. Just call them and tell them that they just had the coupon, and could you please get the same discount...especially since you're going to be spending that much money. Being nice (and getting the right sales rep) goes a long way.

I didn't mean x2...I meant that you'd send them each a list saying "I want to buy this, that and the other thing before the end of the year. I know that both Musician's Friend and Sam Ash carry all items and will be asking for a quote from each of you. The one with the best price earns my business." etc.

Yeah, these days companies are willing to work a little more for your buck. You can never tell what they'll do to move a few pieces of merchandise. And all they can do is say no. Then you wait for the next coupon.

Just tell them that you were going to buy with them before the coupon went out of date, but now you're considering another retailer with a better deal ... but don't say who.

See if they can work the coupon.

My friend called Musicians Friend this month, and told the customer service rep that he missed out on the October offer, but would like to place an order if he could still receive the discount. She provided him with a 15% discount, not 20%.

However, I believe it really depends on who you speak with at Musicians Friend.

Last month, I was browsing Musicians Friend's site and it went down for maintenance. While the site was unavailable, I was offered a 20% coupon code that could be used via Musicians Friend's live support or Music123's website. The next day I called Musicians Friend to see if I could still use the coupon code, and I was told "no" by the customer service rep.

Later in October I found this posting, and called Musicians Friend again to receive the same discount. This time I was given the discount with no problems.

In the end, it does not hurt to call and ask.

I called today and got a 15% discount and free shipping (which is a nice thing for Alaskans). Of course, I ordered $3100 in gear and told them I had to get a discount or I wouldn't be able to place the order. The sales guy was very helpful and he could see that I had ordered a lot of gear in the past.

He also said there is a big discount coming on Black Friday so I'll give a heads up on that.

I would guess that the shipping to Alaska would be the killer.

I'll be surprised if they go over the 20% discount that they've had over the last month. If they do, there's a few things I know I'd like to pick up.

If they used the post office it wouldn't be bad. Flat rate shipping is the best thing around. I just shipped a Dingwall 5 string bass to TX and it was over $150 to UPS it.

If they go much over, there's enough things with good rebates for me to get free stuff and make a small profit on the deal.
