No, not really. Paypal offers protection on Ebay purchases that fall within certain standards, but they do not protect off-Ebay purchases in most cases. Your best bet is to use a credit card rather than a bank balance to make the Paypal payment, because the credit card company will probably offer you true protection and reimbursement in case of fraud.

Wonder if this is the same one I emailed about a while ago and got no response. I live in the area...there was a fortress listed in Malden about a month and a half ago for $400, no pics, emailed and didn't get a response. However, there was another one listed for $450 in another town at the same time, and I scooped that pristine guy up for $400 with a hardcase!
