Where/When are the after Xmas sales?!

Sign in to disble this ad
I got a gift certificate from musicians friend for Xmas and have been waiting to pounce on a sale. I figured between the merhandise returns and generally weak holiday sales, retailers would be blowing gear out, but I have seen nothing, at least not for basses.

When/where would I find some real deals? Not these bait and switch "save up to 80%" spam emails that show MIM fenders MSRP at $2K, hence the 80% "savings".

Dude - welcome to music retailing....

There are NO after Christmas gear specials. It's the pre-Christmas gear specials....not that they're specials...but there should be deals to clear out inventory during December, with some deeper discounts from Decemeber 25 through 31.

That's the end of most businesses' fiscal year. Just like the auto industry - the best time to buy a car is the last week of the year.

NAMM is in January, which is when the new stuff debuts, so starting next week, the new stuff will be available with major price increases.

Check out the MTD Z's - Since I've been looking for an affordable (read, "under $1000") 6er (34 scale with maple FB and 19mm string spacing), most music outlets had the Kingston Z 6 stringer for 1149 (doesn't fit my specs, but it provides an excellent example for this situation). Now, they're 1349. Most other manufacturers have announced price increase, so even old stock goes up (just like your local gas station).

Bottom line - "When come Jan 1, the sales are done."

Keep warm.

Z

Well, for guys that might not necessarily be looking for the latest '08 models, there could be some very good deals out there. Just have to keep looking...

Music123 has a tiered discount sale going on currently. $25 off for the first $250 (10%) up to $100 off for around a grand.

I would be taking advantage of it but they haven't made it clear whether the product I want is available.

Figured as much.

Plus consolidation of manufacturers AND retailers means price fixing abound regardless of season. That is why I invest in used basses (literally). The price increases of comparable, and often inferior new basses increases at a rate that is much more attractive than a money market account if you buy and sell.

But yeah, too bad I didn't gt my xmas gift before xmas.
