Michael,

Is there much of a tonal difference between a Poplar/maple wenge/wenge and an Ash/maple wenge/wenge? Two basses side by side plugged in and played; could anyone but a golden ear hear the difference? I like the way the Ash looks but who goes around showing the back of their bass? Okay... when I get into the portion of my act where I play with my teeth and behind my head it might show.

In Montana they have signs over bars that say,"Before engaging your mouth, make sure your mind is in gear!"

Tonal Differences Poplar Vs Ash

To Be absolutely simple about this, Poplar will be a little Warmer tonally than Ash, and is much more similar to Alder which has a Moderate Attack and Smooth Decay yielding an Even balanced tone with Well Defined Lows and clear highs.
