Looking for input

I just picked the bass back up. Would really like to add a 4 string and my girl has been asking what I want for x-mas. It's not one of those give me a list and I pick or anything like that. I pick out exactly what I want wait till x-mas open the package and have it.

So what would you guys suggest for say around or under $300?

Ive been looking at:
Squier Modifed Jazz(or variations of)
Dean Hillsboro
Fernades Gravity

Jx2-

Can't go wrong with a Jazz bass. Call, email or PM us if you'd like a quote on a Squire Jazz or anything in the Fender line. (We are not a dealer for Dean or Fernandes and I haven't played either brand in years so I can't give you an honest opinion on them.)

Talk about a headache-for men, especially. (I make sure that give myself a great present a couple of months prior, and keep smiling during the holidays, no matter what is/is not received.)

1. Most of us are married to (or hooked up with) the type that do not get it, and either buy us what we don't want, or worse. (Hints, or lists can go a long way in response.)

2. And it seems that so many women take offense to a list, or suggestion that they might fail on #1, above.
