A question about importing (to Aus)

Hey there. Just a quick question about importing a bass guitar to you guys.

After I've paid for the bass and it's being sent, how do I go about declaring it to customs or whatever? Do I even need to do that? I've never imported a bass so I dunno what I'm doing. Anyone with advice (especially Aussies who've done this before) please help

Cheers

The shipper will do all that paperwork. You just have to pay your local taxes, duties, etc etc lol.

I've only imported a bass with less than $1000 sticker value on it, so I didn't have to pay the 10% gst or 5% import excise on them.

Oh hang on. Are you importing to Australia or exporting from Australia?

Hi

I imported by Lakland DJ5 from the US. It was about 1000US so over the 1000AU limit to avoid customs/duties, which came up to be about 200 or so

Apparently Bass guitars aren't supposed to be charged import GST but still pay duty (I think). I only found this out afterwards so I would look into this, it might save you 10% on the import cost.

Cheers

ual,

Typically we ship to Australia using UPS international.
EXAMPLE:
You buy a bass from us, we ship the bass to you. The only 'paperwork' we need from you would be your billing/shipping information. We fill out the shipping documentation and then ship it out.
Australian customs will contact you and let you know the amount you owe for importing the instrument. You pay the customs fee and they release the bass to you. Hope this helps...
