I use either Uline(about $8 each), and keep boxes of basses I buy. You can also hit up music stores and bicycle shops. You can get very creative with a box cutter and good packing tape. A hand-held dispenser is a HUGE timersaver also:

ALSO:
IF you can find a regular "bass box", stuff the wrapped bass in it, and then put that in a stuff box...your chances of no damage are increased. Japanese seem to ship basses here by wrapping the bass like a mummy with bubblewrap(free if you find a store or warehouse that throws it away) and then put the mummified bass into a boxe stuffed with newspaper. It works.
