The Bass Matt - edge protection for double basses

The bass mat is a lightweight portable mat designed to help prevent wear on your bass' table edges where a stool, chair, or corner are not available.
The bass mat is an alternative to laying the bass directly onto potentially damaging surfaces such as rough and cracked flooring, uneven performance areas, or loosely woven carpeting.
Made from the same soft flexible material as are yoga mats, its approximate dimensions are 12” x 40” x 3mm.
Colors shown are: Screaming Red, Muted Green, Flourescent Green, Royal Blue, Periwinkle, Grey. Please state 1st and 2nd color choices.
$17.99 shipped, Conus. Paypal: davidjhosking at msn.com

Brilliant idea! I particularly like the added visibility element of the bright colors. Best of luck with the venture.

That's not Mitt Romney driving that station wagon with the doghouse on top, is it?

A Worthwhile Accessory

It is great when a player has a need and is able to come up with a solution that can benefit others as well.
Dave was kind enough to send me a “Bass Matt”, and last night I had the perfect opportunity to use it. The setting was a restaurant garden, with a not quite level plywood stage. There were grains of sand that had been tracked onto the stage, but I just pulled the mat from the back pocket of my bass bag and had a clean padded surface on which to lay down my bass.
The Bass Matt takes up almost no space in a bass bag and weighs next to nothing. It seems to be a worthwhile accessory to have on hand.

I like it. I presume you just lay it in the bag against the back of the bass? Would it roll up and fit in the bow pocket?

Those are good ideas. I hadn't thought of laying it in the bag because small foreign particles on the mat may embed in the finish if the mat's not thoroughly brushed off. Rolling it up in the bow pocket works. You can also fold it in two at the "waist" and stick it in the music pocket.

I am now the proud (and surprised) owner of a Bass Matt in high-visibility red, sent to me by Dave. Thanks!

The product is well made, well designed, and a bargain at the price. Fits nicely in the gig bag, and when rolled out perfectly defines a "zone" for the bass, as well as providing protection. It's a little late to worry about pristine edges on my '38 Kay, but I find myself using the Bass Matt anyway, because its high-grip surface (like a yoga mat) provides a measure of stability as well as padding. Highly recommend it--really, it should be a no-brainer to add one of these to your gig arsenal.

Thumbs up Oops...

I'm sorry, but I've been terribly remiss in not getting back about the Bass Matt that Dave sent me (didn't have any gigs at which to use it).

The thing is a simple solution to a real issue, and it works. The Bass Matt will accompany my bass wherever it goes.

Thanks, Dave.

Michael

I played a gig Saturday where the floor was wet and I was wondering where I was going to put the bass down, and then I remembered that I had the bass matt in my case. It was the perfect solution to keeping the bass from getting wet.
