Any SoCal bass players?

Anyone here living in SoCal? Going to any festivals this year or seeing any good bluegrass bands down here in LA?

Tunisia Evening .... Seems that there's No Love (or advise) for You around TalkBass . My Advice Is .... Join up at Bass'n'Bluegrass .... Bass and Bluegrass • Index page ...

Back in The Good Old Days ... There was "BlueGrass Bass Place" but then there was a Combined Attack .... Aliens from the Rings of Saturn, El Queda, and The Taliban joined-up, busted the code, and BGBP died badly. Damn I wish the Navy Seals were called in on That Deal.

However ..... Our Hero BustaMelon (a software smarty-pants .... Also known to post intelligent comments around TalkBass under a different name ... Owns a real-nice New Standard Cleveland bass ... And can play "Jazz" ) ...

Well .... Busta resurrected a new bluegrass site for Us General Low-Lifes so that we would not have to further-incur the wrath of "real bass players" and Their Advice around here .

Over there .... There's a Guy from San Diego ... "stickfromsocal" that is in the bluegrass loop in your general neighborhood. I originally led him to our bluegrass bass website(s) and he hasn't visted TalkBass since . He might know what's happening in SoCal !

One of the biggest and best Old Time and Bluegrass festivals in SoCal is the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle Contest, which is coming right up next week on Sunday, May 15. I'm into Old Time, myself, so I will also be at the Sixth Ever LA Old Time Social, which takes place the day before Topanga. Google the event names for details. If you attend either event, look me up. I'll be the guy hanging with the old timers playing a blonde 1948 Epiphone B4.

I'll be heading up to the Topanga festival next week. I'll have a 1938 blonde M-4 Kay bass (or my mando if too many bassists). The biggest festival down here in San Diego area is Summergrass in August. It attracts a big bluegrass crowd. My band, Bluecreek, just played the Ramona bluegrass festival last week. It was a decent new festival that is growing. In June, we'll probably be playing Bluegrass Day at the Del Mar Fair. Also, there's the Julian Festival in September.

If you see me at the Topanga festival or visit any of the San Diego festivals, stop by and say hi.

If you're into Jazz, keep an eye out for the San Diego Double Bass Summit. Last year (2010) it was at Dizzy's on July 25. Here's a link to a story about it.

Hey, he got pretty good shots of me jamming with fiddlers Dave Bragger and Ben Thompson and clogger Ruth Alpert. Dang, that was some serious fun.
