Bluegrass EUB for complete newbie

Hello,

I am looking for advice on a decent EUB option for Bluegrass. Budget is ~$750. I was considering a Palatino VE-500 but was leaning towards the NS WAV 4. Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Michael

You might want to post your question in the "Basses" forum so you'll have input from players from other genres. EUBs are still kind of rare in Bluegrass.

You blow your budget a little with the WAV unless you've seen one cheaper than I have.

I have a WAV 4 and like it a lot. But, your budget needs to be increased. The bass itself sells just about everywhere for around $900 and you'll want to change out the strings immediately. The strings that come on it sound more like bass guitar strings. But some real upright bass strings on it and raise the action. I put Obligatos on mine. Doesn't sound exactly like my Englehardt, but can come pretty darn close. Good luck!

Thanks for the advice

Yeah, I realize that I am being a bit optomistic about the wav4 as I have not seen it new for less than $895. There was a used one that sold on this forum for 750 last month. Was hoping that something like that would fall into my lap.

I will keep biding my time and hope to get a deal. If nothing by Fathers day I will probably splurge and do the 895. Then the problem becomes the AMP of course.

I have a WAV4; well worth the extra $, IMO.
Eurosonic Ultralights fit(barely, the E just makes it), and sound
pretty good, as well.

You can get a 4 or 5 string Ergo for that $
