instrumental bluegrass

I've gotten pretty into the republic of strings, and bela fleck and edgar meyer's stuff lately, and was looking for some more groups in the same kind of instrumental bluegrass style.
Thanks,
Clay

ricky skaggs doing get up john has to be one of my favorite instrumentals.

i was at the station inn a year or two ago and josh williams was doing a guitar thing with andy falco and chris eldridge. they were supposed to make it into a video for flatpicker magazine so that may be out there.

michael cleveland and flame keeper has some good stuff.

dig up some old raymond fairchild stuff. i played with him some a few years back and that was always interesting.

find a good local jam and talk to the fiddle players.

most of these are more traditional styles and maybe not exactly what you are looking for but it's about all i am familiar with.

Tony Trischka's just re-released CD "Hill Country." It was originally recorded in late January-early February 1985. Features Sam Bush, Mark Hembree (on bass), Tony Rice, Blaine Sprouse on fiddle, Jerry Douglas along with Bela Fleck and Sonny Osborne helping out on a few. There's also 2-3 tracks (each) with Trischka playing banjo in front of either The Del McCoury Band or The Johnson Mountain Boys.

Don't forget the Stringdusters, John Cowan, Blue Moon Rising and several other newer young groups.

plug myself

I'll throw a plug in here for my own band, The Creaking Tree String Quartet. We don't play much trad bluegrass, but it's as big an influence as any, and everything we do is instrumental.

I did some double bill concerts with those guys.... rushad is just insane... from another planet. Darol Anger is cool too... he played a bunch of baritone violin, sounded excellent. Very nice guys.

Try Andy Leftwich's first CD Ride. Its somewhere between traditional and new grass but it has some of the best picking you will ever hear.
