mic clip unit I built

Picture with 57 on the clip

And then of course without

And then not on the bass at all

I usually use my Shadow pickup and preamp setup, but we were at a festival this weekend and they just wanted microphones. But, after fighting with crappy mic stands I decided I needed something for the festival scene. I may use it with our own PA also, but we will have to see. I also have this posted in someone else's thread at BGBP.

Side View Picture

This is just after putting on a coat of flat black paint. I am going to coat the bottome side with some sort of felt, so it doesn't scratch up the bass.

This seems sweet, simple and easy to use. Does the mic pic up a good sound so close to the ff hole? How did you put the metal pieces together?
Good work!

It gets a good sound. I am also going to bring a short gooseneck to try with our setup and see what sounds best.

What you see is just a tack welded setup with a set screw on the mic clamp, so I could get a good height. I currently do not have anything on the back side other than black paint, but I will be putting a thin layer of felt on it to protect the bass.

I tried a few different designs before I tried this. I wish I had the correct size tubing and the 5/8 x 27 die and I would cut the tubing to the correct length and thread it. But, finding the correct tubing and the die are not easy to find.

If you have other questions, just let me know.

I think you will find its 5/8 x 26 die your looking for, thats standard BSF thread if I remember correctly.Should be easy to find.Never come across 5/8x27 in 30 years of engineering.

It doesn't look like anyone else is interested in one, so I thanks for the link, but unless I was going to start producing them for others would I consider buying the special tubing and a die.

I did a festival today and the soundman really like the unit I built and said it was much better than using a mic stand and you still get the decent sound of the bass and it didn't sound electric at all. This was just his response. I have no idea what it sounded like on the FOH system.

Night all!!!!
