opinions on Glaesel bass

A guy has one for sale around here, asking $1100. I think it's a plywood model that isn't made any more. It's pretty far from my home, and I would like to get some opinions before I make the journey. Anybody got one, or know about them? Being a newbee, and looking for my first bass, I'm a little gun shy about this one.

Don't know about Glaesel but....

...if you have a chance you might want to check out Steve Swan's shop. he carries a bunch of basses...steveswanguitars.com

He is somewhere in the bay area IIRC.
