River City

Any TBers going to River City next weekend?
We'll be there Saturday/evening on our way back from Depoe Bay.

Looks like a pretty good show, if I'm not picking with the locals........

Yo Jake .... I'm on the fence right now. Been there the last 2 years but since I just bought a used M-Line and want to buy a Gamut/Garbo combo for my bass ..... I may not have enuff $ in the piggy bank. Never know ... when Thursday rolls around, I may still bail out of snow country. I might opt for WinterGrass instead since a fellow TBer from Tacoma has a Cleveland that he said I could try out if I get out there in Feb. Anyhow .... have fun and say hello to Trisha .

Hi Bubba. We got there about 7:15 PM Saturday, too late for Rhonda unfortunately.

We were there for Marty Stuart's truly wonderful set with Ronnie and Robbie McCoury and the encore with Del - WOW! I'd sorta forgotten that Marty is a helluva mandolin player - his duet with Ronnie on Rawhide was fantastic!

We were picking with the Seattle-ites ( Mary Maas, Ethan Lawton, Sue Thompson, Pete Goodall & Carol Martin) in the Red Lion ballroom until about 3:00 AM, then we went back to our room at the stinky Inn.

We didn't stay for anything on Sunday, having a long, slow VW van kind of drive ahead of us.

It was worth going just for the Marty Stuart show really. One of the best I've seen in years.

We'll probably go to Wintergrass but I may not buy a ticket this year. I'm not interested in the quasi electric bands they have booked again this year. Find me at the Santa Cruz booth. You can see who to look for by checking out some of the pix at www.myspace.com/crescentbeachguitar

We saw Marty back in 2001 at Bass Mountain…he was an awesome picker! A tradition at Bass Mountain is story telling on the front porch. We got to sit and listen to Marty tell stories about his Flatt & Scruggs days and how young he was…15 years old. He also told a very moving and funny story about John Hartford last days on earth and then about the funeral and John’s bat man costume…bust out funny laughing. It really made you feel close to the history. I also realized Marty is quite short…those boots and tall hair make him appear much taller on stage.

Marty was a no show last year at Merlefest but has been re-booked for this year Thursday night closer. I am really looking forward to seeing him again…I’m sure him and Ronnie had a dual on Rawhide…AWESOME.

I know 3 finger Ed too and I think we played in some of the same jams. I also play dobro and banjo easier to carry. I jamed with another bass player from B.C. Nancy with blond hair.
