Wintergrass 2011

I can't believe there's been no talk about this upcoming event. Am I the only Talkbasser attending the festival?

Seeya, Jake

Wish I live close. I'd love to go. Maybe next year. How much are the tickets by the way? I was trying to find out but didn't see on their website.

I'm coming! Headed out there with my bandmate and luthier extraordinaire, Jayson Bowerman. I plan on jamming all night, attending clinics all day and sleeping on the way home. See ya there!

Hey Rob, you're obviously younger than I am - I'm going to need to sleep every night while I'm at Wintergrass!

Fred, I think the Early Bird tickets were about $125.00 per person for the weekend - Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

What a great weekend! The new hotel has eclipsed the Sheraton in every way and is setting new standard in indoor bluegrass. We stayed in a 'Jamming Suite' and it was terrific - lots of room for people and instruments and a good-sounding room to play in.

We saw a few good bands too! We caught The Don Stiernberg Trio on Thursday night - a very fluid jazz trio (DB, mandolin and guitar) with a famous leader - he can sing too!

Dale Ann Bradley was fantastic with a really great band including the amazing Shad Cobb on fiddle and TB member and living legend Ron Shuffler on bass.

The Gibson Brothers had Mike Barber on bass - really tasteful player.

The Boxcars had a young guy called Harold Nixon who played a great DB solo on Clinch Mountain Backstep!

Lots more available but...we were busy playing!

I was just going to ask you if you caught Don, great musician, good guy and he's from chitown!

Damn right! I went over to him in the lobby and introduced myself. He's a great musician and he was really channeling Jethro Burns' humour too!

I forgot to say (still recovering! ) that I was able to say Hi to two Talkbass members. I ran into Jim Shamp on the second floor concourse and I had a brief conversation with Ron Shuffler. Very cool.
