[Help] Fret Buzz on 1st fret...

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there all.. would you please be kind helping me with this problem.

Recently i bought G&L Tribute L-2000 bass, it is a very wonderful bass, rich in tone but sadly very bad setting which makes very uncomfortable too play.

I change the string to Ernie Ball with .40 strings. But problem occurs. i just don't know why the 1st - 3rd fret is buzzing. it rarely happen ever since i play bass. finally i turn the bridge into higher position which makes really uncomfortable.

Can i have any advice why this happen?? my thought is because the high nut. how can it help if i trim down the nut a little bit ??

thanks..

To low of nut slots, or to straight of neck. (To little relief on neck makes the first frets buzz, to much relief makes the highest frets buzz)

Could be that the previous owner had a less aggressive plucking technique than you do also.

I'd try adding some relief first by loosening the truss rod about 1/8th turn and see if that helps.

The Roger Sadowsky article about bass set up said that a bass that has fret buzz in the 1st position hasa neck that is too straight. To loosen it he turns the truss rod an eight of a turn at a time until it plays cleanly.

It could be high frets as well. Have you looked into that?
