I just purchased this off Craigslist for $40. It is pretty beat up but everything is there. There is some separation of the liner and rust on the latches. A few questions:
- How can I tell how old it is for sure?
- Is this a worthwhile buy?
I think thats a pretty good deal! It looks like a late 60s-early 70s full-scale bass case. Your best chance for determining it's age is to use this site http://home.provide.net/~cfh/fender.html#cases This is a great piece for someone who is looking to complete their restoration, or likes the older cases. Check out the prices that they are getting on ebay, and there is your answer. If you want to fix it up, I have read that most any local upholstery shop worth their work can fix up the case and make it more usable.
My 69 Jazz came with the same exact case: The tail under the logo.
My former 72 P had the logo with no tail.
I say you did pretty darn good, they usually go for much more than that.
Why did you buy it though?
It just seemed like a good buy for resale. I figured someone on here might be looking for one to restore to match a bass they purchased. I was going to list it so I could make a bit of money (nothing exorbitant) and we could keep a bit of history in the TalkBass community. Thanks everyone! You are extremely knowledgable!
