1978 Jazz Bass Knobs

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello everybody. I've played bass for about 20 years but just recently registered in the forum and this is my first post.

My main bass is a refinished 1978 Fender Jazz Bass, which had suffered some modifications (strap buttons, pickups, pickguard) when i acquired it. I've recently decided to restore it to its original glory. Looking at The Fender Bass - An Illustrated Story, i notice that late-seventies and early-eighties jazz basses have what they call "strat-style knobs" instead of the regular black knobs (2 large volume, 1 small tone). For those of you playing at home you can check out pages 65 and 71 of the book.

My question is, are these knobs identical to the current strat knobs? Would standard strat knobs be an accurate replacement? If not, any suggestions?

I apologize if this has already been discussed, bit i did not find anything by searching the forum.

Thanks,

C

Nope...They're slightly different. Keep in mind, a strat has one volume, two tones...

BTW, Fender used these knobs off and on for years for their Jazz basses. I have a 92 or 93 Jazz that's got these as well. I liked them enough to retrofit a set for my MIJ Jazz fretless.
