2 setup questions

I read Gary Willis' site on setup but it didn't address this. When I adjust my truss rod, say a quarter turn, how quickly should I notice a difference? Second, I play a fretless, and want to set my intonation so that it's on the lines before the 12th fret, and before them after the 12th fret.

you should see a small difference almost immediately, and the full effect after a day or so!

before them before the 12th and after after the 12th fret, no gonna happen, improve your technique

You'd need to start with a blank board and cut your own lines.

Out of curiosity, why would you want that?

You can't set up your bass to intonate perfectly up to a certain point and then just change.. it doesn't work that way. You can try your best to set it on the lines before the 12 fret, but I doubt you will even make it there before you have to start moving back.

thanks guys, what I meant with the intonation question was that my bass is currently intonated so that you play before the lines around the first fret, and on the lines further up the neck, so I want the opposite. I also know it's a gradual change, I just didn't phrase my question very well.

Below the 12th fret is fixed? I thought it varied across the entire string, just that the closer you are to the bridge, the more it's influenced.

Only? How do the ones below the 12th fret stay the same if the entire string is being adjusted?

Altering the string length affects intonation on all frets.
