2008 Am St. Fender Jazz V string height

Just got this bass and I absolutely dig it! Only one small thing: i'd like to drop the string height on the G string more, but the saddle is as low as it can go. Obviously I'll have to shim the neck pocket, and I've done it before.

just curious if others of you guys have had to shim your necks. Also, in your opinion, would you recommend shimming the whole neck pocket as one large rectangle, or just a small piece in the upper half towards the headstock, or the bottom half towards the bridge?

I shimmed my P5. Just use a strip of wood or cardboard the full width of the neck and put it at the body end of the neck pocket. My P5 can now be set up super low, and plays and sounds great.

Straighten you trussrod! Turn it clock wise about a half turn, and reset your saddles.
You should be okay after this. Don't bother shimming, you probably don't need it.

i thought about straightening out the trussrod, but it had what i consider a healthy amount of relief and i also wanted more room to work with with the G string saddle. i went ahead and shimmed it today with a piece of index card, and it worked perfectly!

As long as you can play it and like it, that's all that matters.

Relief and neck tilt are two VERY different adjustments and are not at all interchangeable.

How'd the shimming go?
