4 string set up as 5 string

Hey there,
Hey there, I have an old Daion that I modified the bridge, changed the nut in order to fit a set of B E A D tapereound strings. I have had to keep the action a bit higher then I would of liked. I have 2 P basses and I am thinking of doing the same to one of them. My question is, on a bass that is designed as a 4 string will the added tension from the B string be anything to worry about?

I wasn't worried too much about the daion as it is a bit of a thrasher and has suffered much abuse over the years! My plan is to set up the P and use the old daion as a spare cos, dammit, I break strings!

Thanks

The B string in a standard set has less tension than a G string.

Cut your nut properly and set your bass up, it should be no problem.

No. There isn't any.

I wouldn't say "added" tension, but subtracted tension. The low B could be too big for your nut, but that's an easy fix. You might have to change your action a bit, but that's an easy fix. Just as long as you're not rockin' a short scale, there should be no problem.
Doctor approved.
