5 string string retainer mod.

Sign in to disble this ad
I just picked up an SX fiver a couple weeks ago and found a good and inexpensive way to change the three string standard string retainer for one that does all 5 strings. My local Music Go round has guitar and bass parts and I noticed that they had string retainers for guitars that looked like they might work for bass too.It was only $4 so I bought one to try.It fit great and works real well.I had to drill two small holes just to the inside of the original holes but when it's stung up you can't even see the original holes so I don't think I'll even fill them. The retainer is rounded on the bottom and is curved like the radius of a fretboard so it keeps the B and G strings from coming off the ends. They also had a black one in stock so it could be used for a bass with black hardware too.I just thought I'd share, these work great.I also posted this on the SX club thread.

The name on the package is Pro Custom. It's made for Music Go Round and the part is (PC1506C string retainer bar).I imagine the C in the part # is for chrome.I thought Mighty Mite made them but I could be wrong.

Hey, guys. I tried to do this with an FR string retainer from stewmac.com, but the screws that came with it were too short and pulled out of the pilot holes when I tuned up. I'm thinking longer screws would work, but I have no info on the screws. Do you guys have any ideas? I could always wander around the hardware store and generally make a pest of myself. Thanks in advance.

Stringing up that E looks like it would be... difficult.
