5th Fret Buzz Plan of Attack on Warwick Corvette Question

Sign in to disble this ad
Bought a new Warwick Corvette Double Buck. Plays great minus a buzz on the 5th fret. It doesn't completely choke the note. The E string is the worst, A, D and G it is there, but you really need to dig in to get it to buzz on those strings.

I have:
Raised the action at the bridge and nut (Warwicks have adjustable nuts) just a little

Loosened the truss rod less than a 1/4 turn last night

Nothing seems to make the buzz better or worse.

The usual light gauge factory. I prefer a 45-105 set (it is a 4-string)

What do you guys suggest I try next?

1) Adjust the action even higher
2) Loosen the truss rod more
3) Put on heavier strings
4) Have a tech see if the 5th fret is too high
5) Chill out and give the bass a week to settle in as it was probably in not so climate controlled warehouse.

I have already gigged/practice with the bass, so it is more than playable as is, just trying to see if I can't get the buzz out.

Your sixth fret might be a tad too high, you could get it filed down if that's the case, or..... Just don't dig in when your on the fifth fret, lol?

As a first step, position a straight steel ruler with its edge against the top of the frets. Use a flashlight or work lamp to look for gaps or high spots where the edge of the ruler touches the frets.
