| '62 AV RI Fender P - truss rod nut not flush (It's an outie)

So I added a '97 - '62 AV RI to the stable and I noticed that the end of the truss-rod nut is not flush with the heel of the neck. I have three other AV RI's where the rod-nut is either flush or slightly recessed.
The neck is flat with almost no relief. It plays with a slight buzz but nothing that comes through the amp/cab.
The end of the truss-rod nut is sticking out less than 3/8", maybe a little more that 1/4".
I have not tried turning it.
Is this something that could be indicative of a problem?
