Question '64 Jazz Bass

Well..... I just got my first fender bass, its a fender standard jazz bass made in 1964 in japan. its all original!!!! my question is what is the small metal flat wire that runs between the bridge and the bridge pickup??? Im just curious. And what does it do?

grounding strip. it grounds it obselete now obviously.

Thanks alot guys im just getting into older basses and i was just wondering what it was since ive seen them on a few older pre 70's basses and i was just making sure it was normal

What makes you think you have a '64 and that it's made in Japan? This make NO sense. Pictures would help.

Who or what led you to believe this bass was made in Japan or that it is from 1964?

I'm guessing you have a Lxxxxxx serial number and you're confusing the Japanese serial number with the US serial number sequence. You have a '91-'92 Japanese Jazz.

i Bought it from a local guitar shop and the guy told me that it was from 64' but i doubt that was true but the neck plate is so rusted thet i cant read it so i replaced it...... im get it outta the workshop and try to make it out.
