6th and 8th fret buzzing

Sign in to disble this ad
My E string only is buzzing on the 6th and 8th frets.

I have low action, pretty low relief on the neck, and Dean Markley SR2000 roundwounds on there.

It wasn't having this issue before with flats on there, then I took it in for a setup... I even played it in the store after he did the setup and didn't notice it... But when I got home, all of a sudden there was a lot of buzzing on the 6th and 8th fret on the E string only.

It almost seems like the buzzing is actually occurring BEHIND the string.

If I press the 6th fret with my middle finger, for example, and also have my index finger just touching the string on the fifth fret, the buzzing doesn't seem to be there.

To my thinking, this would suggest too much relief in the neck, right? At that point in the neck, it's not an issue of the action right?
I know that if frets 1-5 buzz, you need more relief. If 14-21 buzzes, you need to higher the action. So I assume that if theres a buzz between that, then the neck needs to be straightened??

And anyway, what the heck is the string doing buzzing behind where I'm pressing it anyway? (and no, it's not a technique issue)

new string?

Hey I just had this, buzzing on the Bfret while fingering the C, on the E string. Talked to my luthier. Told me to change the string. It actually worked but I noticed the nut was loose in it's slot.
I suggest loosening all your strings and see if the nut is loose.
Or just change the offending string first. Might work

Buzzing on the nut side of a fretted note usually indicates one of two conditions:

1. Not enough relief
2. Nut slots cut too low.

I would check those first, starting with the neck relief.
