'71 P Bass tuning machine bore

Sign in to disble this ad
Does anyone know the bore size of the tuning machine bores on a '71 P Bass? The bass is really headstock heavy and I'd like to install some Hipshot Ultralite tuners to even it out. Thanks.

I think the post needs to be 1/2" and the peghead hole is 11/16".

For more measurements, look at the measurements for the Hipshot HB2, which is supposed to be the conventional replacement for that era of Fender bass. I think you should be able to get the 1/2" version of the HB6C and it will fit.

I hate being "that guy" but I take it you don't need to worry about maintaining vintage value?

Thanks. Total workhorse bass that's been around the block more than once.
