'79 P Bass Bridge concerns

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey, here's the situation. I have a 1979 P bass that, a while ago, somehow mysteriously lost the bridge intonation screw ONLY while on tour. I've yet to solve that mystery, but I still have the saddle, spring, height screws and bridge all in tact otherwise. I've since replaced it with a similar thread count hardware store screw that does work fine. I just feel like it's doing the bass an injustice.

Does anyone on here know where I can get that exact screw (as I've noticed most modern P bass bridge thread counts are different through the saddle)? If not, or possibly just another alternative, does anyone have a recommendation on a really solid complete new P Bass bridge that would fit on a '79 without having to drill new holes? That's always another viable option.

Thanks for any info.

Try Bass Parts Resource here:

See if any of those fit the bill.

Any local repairman (or woman) who has been in business a long time will have a drawer full of miscellaneous hardware, and I'd be willing to bet that your screw is in that drawer. Otherwise, keep using it with the screw that's in there, and just keep asking around at every music store you happen into. One of them will have the exact match.

Alternately, there are many aftermarket (and official Fender) bridges, including the Leo Quaan Badass line, that are direct Fender replacements that will work without requiring new holes.

Go online and contact any of the vintage bass/guitar dealers .They all carry Fenders and chances are have one. This way you could get period correct if thats important. You can also just order a 75 RI Fender USA bridge for it. If it was me I would shop for the screw and play it with the replacement until I find one.
