89 jazz bass with a neck issue, Need help?

Hey guys, I have an old 89 jazz bass and i think the neck is shot, I recently took it to a repair shop and the guy said the allan wrench I was using was too short and to try a longer one 1/8in in size. anyway I tried two different ones and nada, it will only let tension out and tightening the neck is hell.

two gerneral questions, does anyone know for sure what the correct allan wrench size for an 89 jazz is,

and for anyone who has gotten a replacemnt neck through fender what did it end up costing, I called them and they were very indirect with me, they said it could cost anywhere between $400-600 and maybe more. Just curious if others have done this what their expiriances were.

just asking casue I was debating buying some nordy's for this bass but if the neck needs replacing it may make more financial sense to just get a new bass.
