90's JB neck cracked. How bad is it?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there, I just found this nice JB neck on a friends garage. It's a 97 Fender neck that he took out of his JB and replaced with another one (don't ask me why):

It has a very nice profile, satin finish and apparently is in good condition except for these two cracks, one on the back…

…and the other at the tuning machine screw hole:

observe that the crack is a bit deep on wood…

I'd like to get this neck for a project with an 1 piece Alder body that I have but I need some advice from the experts. Do you think these two cracks could be repaired or won't worth it?

Thanks in advance, sorry for the crappy camera pics and my bad English.

Best

The crack isn't that big of a deal. A skilled tech can stabilize the crack by forcing it open and wicking some glue into it. The crack should then be sealed with an appropriate lacquer.

Further note - the crack on the back of the neck looks like a finish crack to me, not a crack in the wood. The one in the headstock should be fixed though. Not a big deal to have it done.

Yep, I took the neck to the local guy, he said that's not big deal. Crack on the headstock is easy to fix and I should not worry with the other crack. Like Turnaround said its just on the finishing.

Thanks a lot guys for your support!

That leads me to another Q

How much do you think it worth?

I have no idea…

couldn't tell you how much, but i will say i went looking for a '90s fender american standard jazz neck recently, and could not find one.

i like the first generation american standard basses with the stiff graphite rods inlaid in them.
