ABG bridge pin problem

I just got a brand new Tacoma Thunderchief, and I put some new strings on it. When I tuned up the G string there was a pop and the bridge pin went flying. It is very loose in the hole. I put the tip of a toothpick in to make it fit tight enough to hold the string in, but I'm wondering if anyone knows a better solution.

The pin should be loose if inserted with no string - the string ball pushes against the side of the pin, which tightens things up.

The symptom you describe usually occurs when the ball gets caught on the tip of the pin rather than the side. Try making a 45 degree bend in the string just above the ball to help guide it to the right position.
