the action of my bass

One of the basses that I own is a crappy Squier P-bass. I dont really use it anymore because i have a better bass now, but there are times that i want to use it just for fun. But the problem that I have with it is the neck and the action. Despite the number of times that i've tried adjusting it, the strings are still very high off the neck and are very hard to press on the neck. I'm personally not the type of person to be adjusting basses in that nature, and i know this problem is very common and has happend with almost every bassist, but im asking for some help me and give me some directions with the adjusting. Suggestions??

I used to have a Squier P-Bass. They are known for requiring a washer/spacer on the truss rod to get the truss rod adjustment to go all the way it needs to go.

They aren't bad basses. I think the pickup output is a little low so you tend to yank the strings harder which, in turn, leads you to believe you need to make the action higher which, in turn makes the fretting harder which, in turn, makes you think you need to lower the action. It's a vicious circle.

if your buddy knows a lot about guitars have him do it for ya. should only take him a few minutes. it's basically the same adjustment as on guitar. if he can't do it, he doesn't know as much as he's been letting on.

Bad action can be fixed, dude. Straighten the neck out until you have about a credit card's worth of relief, drop the saddles until the bass starts buzzing when you hit hard. A little bit of fret buzz never comes through the amp, but you don't want it to be unbearable.

There is a sticky at the top of the forum about trussrods and action, it'll answer all you questions. If you went through all the links, come back and ask specific questions about what you don,t understand about doing a setup
