This is my Framus bass:
It's a cool bass but it would be really nice if the action wasn't so high.
The problem is that the bridge pickup is much higher off the top of the body than the neck pickup is. The photo below shows how close the strings are to the bridge pickup. I'm as close as I can get.
Because of the height of that bridge pickup, my action is super high...
I don't know what to do to get it any lower. The only idea I can come up with is to remove the bridge pickup and just leave the neck pickup in.
Anyone have any better ideas? |

Not a bolt-on? Then you have problems...
(Is the neck really supposed to sit that high above the body?) |

Good luck with it. I'm sure a good luthier could fix it right up. |

There's screws on the sides, but they don't lower or raise the pickup at all. |

The housing is attached to the body of the instrument via 4 screws, one in each corner. Funny thing is, I can't get to the end of the lead wire. It's like it's sandwiched in there.
Also, the body looks caved but the finish is fine. I'm no expert, but if the physical form of the body were to change that much, wouldn't there be some evidence of this in the finish? Like cracking or checking? I honestly think this thing was just poorly made. |

I took it out and now for some reason I can't get the screws back in. This is getting frustrating.

There are just minor things that are way off. If you look at that first pic, the headstock isn't even cut symmetrically. You can see how cockeyed it is. The tuning machines aren't straight. I still like the bass... but it's definitely shoddy. Lots of corners were cut when it was made. It does sound nice though, closer to an upright than any other electric I've heard. The body is just huge. I already have one bass in the shop... it may be a while before I can bring this one in.
