Adjusting Action On This Bridge?

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to lower my action, but have not ever worked on this type of bridge before. I think I pretty much understand what to do, but wanted to make sure I knew what all the screws on this bridge do before I start tweaking..

So there are 3 screws for each saddle, one verticle, one horizontal, and one at an angle. What exactly does each one do, and whats the best way to adjust the action? Thanks,

It appears that the screw visible in the bottom picture is the one for adjusting the string height. The screw in the top is most likely a lock for the saddle, to keep it from sliding around in it's own channel. You'd loosen this to adjust your intonation screw (in the back), and tighten it up when your intonation is spot on. Dig?

By the way, what kind of bass is that?

That's what I was thinking, thanks for the quick reply! It's a Yamaha RBX800a, a bit beat up but I sure love it.

So if I lower the action, because that adjustment is at an angle, I'll have to adjust the intonation right? It just seems like a weird design to me..

Yeah, it does look like you'll have to compensate with the backmost screw to keep the intonation the same.
I'd put a little lube on those screws. I keep a can on my bench, I squirt a little wd-40 in there then use the tip of a sharp object to dab just a tiny bit of lube on the screw threads, -then it won't get on everything else.
