Exclamation Adjusting Intonation???

Sign in to disble this ad
Is this something that can be done? I have a Rondo SX Jazz bass and just noticed that when I play up by the 12th fret, it's a quarter tone higher than the string when played open. (i.e. the open G string will show in tune with an electronic tuner but the octave higher G on the 12th fret of the same string shows it's a quarter tone higher on the tuner).

Do the saddles on the bridge (the part the strings ride on) have something to do with the intonation? I notice that these are adjustable, i.e. they can be moved towards the neck or away from the neck. If so, in which direction should I be adjusting them?

Thanks!!

You might want to read the stickies at the top of this forum. There's a post called "All basic set-up questions answered here."

Definitely read the Stickies, but moving the saddle back will cause the 12th's note to flatten.

Thanks fellas, I actually read the Stickies only a few days ago for info on the truss rods but must have missed the sections on intonation!
