Adjusting the neck on my new Benavente

Sign in to disble this ad
Bought a 7-string SCD Benavente from The Low End. Frets extended past the fingerboard and were quite sharp, so I had them dressed.

Now, the problem is the action. A 7-string has a wide neck, and this one is (I think) 18mm spacing at the bridge, so it's very wide. Sighting down the high F string, I see that the neck is absolutely straight and the action is about as low as it could go without buzzing.

But looking down the B string side, there's a deep bow in the neck, so at the 12th fret there's nearly half an inch between string and frets. And there is only ONE truss rod. The upper bout of the single cutaway is bolted to the neck with two large bolts, and the bowed fingerboard starts at the 24th fret, so it's bowed even where bolted on.

I lowered the bridge saddles for the B and E strings as low as possible, but it doesn't make much difference.

This is a new instrument with a lifetime warranty. Should I return it or what?
