Adjusting Truss Rod On Precision Deluxe?

Sign in to disble this ad
I need to adjust the relief on my newly bought 2007 Fender American Precision Deluxe 4...I see the truss rod is located at the neck/pickup end instead of the headstock.

I have never adjusted one there before, whats the best way to do it? Do I need a specific hex tool? I cannot fit an Allen key in there (even the short end is too long), so its either a better tool, or take off the pickguard or neck or?

I will be surprised if there isn't an easy way, its a Deluxe version right?

Btw I did a search and couldn't find specific info on the Deluxe.

Fender.com has a complete tutorial on adjustments and complete setups. The Deluxe is no different from the the American Standard. There is a special T handle ball-end hex tool that is available from several sources including StewMac.com (about $15). The basses come with the tool from the factory. You really need this tool to do the job easily and properly.

Thanks Rocky. I got it adjusted for nix while buying some strings at the local bass shop (Bass People rock!). I think I have a Warwick truss rod tool that might fit that too, Ill see if I can find it for next time.

usa and mex fenders use a 3/16" hex wrench. do not try to jam the wrong size in there.

i made myself a wrench for the usa versions by cutting off a typical right-angled 3/16" just past the bend, so it will slip right into the notch.
