Adjustment to Peavey USA Millennium

Sign in to disble this ad
I have two Peavey USA Millenium four strings that are set up as follows:
45 - 105 round wound D'Addarios
Action at 12th fret 1/8" on both E and G strings
Neck bow between 1st and 17th fret 0.020"

I would like to lower the action to 3/32, but the saddles are all the way down. I could probably reduce the neck bow by 5 - 8 thousandths, but that won't get me to the desired action and I still won't have any wiggle room. These basses do not have the neck angle adjustment that is found on some other Peaveys, so I think that I'm left with putting a shim under the neck shoulder. I don't want to affect the tone, so I'm open to suggestions. Any ideas out there?

thank you in advance...

It stinks that Peavey didn't put a neck tilt on the Milleniums. That's the one gripe I have with mine. Shim it. It's the next best thing and will get you where you want to go.

Thanks guys. Is there a material that is best suited for the shims?

IMHO a properly fitted shim is actually better than one of those tilt adjusters. The problem with the tilt adjusters is that you end up with a two-point contact between the neck and body - one at the tilt adjuster and one across the other end of the pocket. Better to have full contact with the pocket using a tapered shim. Or failing that, a shim that fits the whole width of the pocket rather than the single point of the tilt adjuster.

Then again, I could be wrong. I was once before.

I agree that a shim is better.
