Advice: 2 Fretboard Dents and Neck Rough Spots

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi my rosewood fingerboard has 2 dents/dings right on the edge that are kind of sharp at the edges (bass slid sideways and hit a metal edge causing dents)

Short of filling these (if that is doable) can I sand them a bit to at least smooth out the roughness so I dont feel them everytime I play those frets?

Also, the maple neck has a few small rough spots to the finish that I feel when I slide my hand. Can I lightly sand or steel wool these away without damaging the finish?

I appreciate the help.

Mark

Get an extra fine Scotchbrite pad at Home Depot or such, this will help with the finish. Try putting a small drip of water on the dents(hot water if possible). And give them a few hours to swell back up. This is the preferred method to remove dents, without sanding or filing, by swelling the compressed grain in the dent. You may have to do this a couple times, but will prevent you from having to sand or file much if any material.
