Aerosol Spray for fretboard?!?!?!

Sign in to disble this ad
So I was watching a Kings of Leon concert on Palladia this weekend and noticed roadies were running up and spraying something on the fretboards of the bass/guitars. I have no idea what it was or its purpose and it's driving me nuts. Has anyone else seen this or know what the aerosol spray is?!?!?! Thanks!

Could be something like Fastfret. Very odd if they were doing it during a show though.

Yeah, it is weird. That's what is confusing me. Here's a clip where they were doing it. Watch around 2:15. I guess it is a lubricant but I wonder why they spray their guitars with it the whole show. Is string friction that big a deal for them?

I didn't watch the video, but waaaaay back when in the Dark Ages (aka 1975-ish) I used to use Fingerease, a spray-on neck/fingerboard/string lubricant. http://www.zzounds.com/item--CBR2074

It made the neck...well, slippery. Which, after a few months of use, I realized was totally pointless. A good neck feels fast without having to lube it up like a dungeonmaster's forearm.

Lubing the fretboard - is a really effective way to get the frets to start lifting.

Strings can get pretty sticky in hot humid weather. They sounded pretty good except for the lead singer's voice crapping out on him occasionally. Maybe he should have sprayed his vocal chords.....

I guess if you have a tech who is paid to clean all that crap off and change your string why not? I've used fingerease before but only until i realized it was a fast burn and then the strings just need more and more.

At one point during that concert a roadie is helping the drummer drink a Michaelobe Ultra through a straw while he plays. I thought I would p!ss my pants laughing. Talk about roadie abuse.
