aesthetic bass mod

I want to mod the headstock of my bass like this.
I already cut the chrome plates and I have them ready for attachment the think I am wondering is if anyone has any tips or warnings or ideas to make the painting part easier.

also do you think it would be best to screw the chrome plating down with small screws like the ones on the body or maybe use an epoxy or some other adhesive.

thanks for your input!

Looks nice.

Could be interesting to hear if the plates would have any positive impact on sustain and note-evenness.
Also the bass might be a bit more neckheavy.

Keep us posted

If you're painting just the face of the headstock be sure to make off the whole bass to avoid any overspray. Two or three coats of color, same for clear. Color sand: 600, 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit. Polish. Buff.

I like your idea about epoxying the plate to the face but I'm fairly sure the epoxy will eat into the paint. So, if I was determined to epoxy it on I think I'd put that on first, then mask that plate along with the rest of the body, then paint it the color you want, then unmask the plate, then spray about 6 or 8 coats of clear over the headstock including the plate.

Looks like a job best inlaid..and you'll be learning a craft. Screws wouldn't be bad. But you'd be turning it out like a Burns Bison. if that looks good? go for it.

I like the look - I'd probably screw it down because that would look "Fenderish" and it's something you can UNdo, whereas epoxy is forever.

You just might notice a difference in any dead spots in the neck - adding weight or mass at the headstock end is a typical way of messing around with them.

It also will shift the balance of the bass to the headstock, so I'd try test-fitting it and making sure you're not creating a neck-diver before you fasten it on permanently.

I'd try that and get some of those "ivory" sticker inlays for the RW neck. That'd be hot! IMO anyways...
