If I were to purchase a Squier Classic Vibe 60s P-Bass in Sonic Blue with the idea of artificially accelerating the aging process so it would turn into Surf Green? I realize it's not a nitrocellulose lacquer on that bass, but would that happen naturally over time and what could be done to hasten the process?

Maybe a one-month trial membership? |

| | | My Sonic Blue turned Green??? Hello,
I'm sorry to revive this thread, but I'm experiencing something weird.
I bought my Squier Precision in April 2010. When I bought it, it was Sonic Blue. But because I got two kids and I bought a house, I haven't played with it for a long time. It was stored in a soft case on top of a wardrobe for two years, then in a cedar wardrobe in a basement.
Yesterday I opened the case. It turned green.
I'd like to provide an picture, but I'm on my mobile phone and I have no idea of a place where I could upload a photo online.
What happened? Help, I'm confused. |

| | | Well, I prefered when it was blue!
Could it be caused by the case?
I'll create a Flickr account tomorrow and will post a pic. |

| | | Here's a pic Here's a picture of my "greeny" bass:
You can compare with the blue of the strap (which is a bit darker than the original sonic blue, I must say).
My local music store didn't know what to say. I wrote to Fender to get a consumer relations' contact in Canada.
It's sad, blue is my color, not green! |

I kid...but the surefire way to have a surf green bass is to sand down the sonic blue and paint it surf green.

| | | | I called Fender. The customer service representative said it's the first time he heard such a thing!
I'll call them back with my serial number tomorrow. Also I'll go to the store where I bought my bass, they want to see it.
Stay tuned... |

I agree that the cedar could be the culprit - maybe factoring in the case material as well. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
