Grabbed some shim stock from work and shimmed the neck on my Fender 5 string bass. Worked like a charm.

Wasn't sure how much to go with, so I started off with .025. Whoa!! Too much!! With that much shim the strings felt like they were on the other side of the neck. Took the neck back off, took .010 off so I wound up with .015 of shim and now the action is perfect. Feels like a whole new bass. No more feeling like I'm fighting it to play it.

Thanks to those for the shim suggestion. Much appreciated!

It doesn't take much. I think a folded-over business card is the most thickness I've ever had to use.
