Question Allen wrench for Ibanez SR1205

Sign in to disble this ad
I need to tighten the truss rod on my Ibanez SR1205 5-string fretless. However, I can't find the right size allen wrench to adjust the neck. One of my wrenches almost fits, but due to the shape of the opening, I'm only able to turn it about 1/16 of a rotation.

Does anyone know what size wrench I need and whether there is a certain type of wrench that will fit best given the narrow space?

Thanks!

IIRC My sr505 was a 4mm, don't know if that helps you though.

My SRs all use 4mm (I won't claim that every SR does though!). Unfortunately, you are probably going to have to loosen the strings that are in your way to make adjustments. It is tedious to loosen, tweak, tune, test, repeat... but a small adjustment makes a big difference so be careful and patient.

Thanks for the info! The straight allen wrench should do the trick and I will try 4mm. FYI...I did loosen the strings when I tried to adjust. The truss rod sits about 1/2" down in the hole and the sides were preventing me from rotating.

Oh yeah; using the short end of the allen wrench you'll have that problem on many basses. Those StewMac wrenches - or ones with a T-handle - will work for you.
