Allen wrench for Yamaha RBXJM2?

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm trying to adjust the truss rod on my bass (these too much back bow) and those of you who have one of these will see that the little cavities at the the end of the neck aren't that long so I can't get even the short end of a normal allen wrench to fit in there. I don't have any original wrenches because I got it used and it didn't come with any. Does anyone know of an online store where I could get one that would definitely fit?

My initial thought was to get my current wrench snipped short enough but the stores I've been to say they can't cut through hardened steel and they recommended I go to a mahine shop, but I'm having trouble locating one in the area.

Any advice/suggestions?

You're on the right track. I've shortened allen keys using a cut-off blade on my Dremel tool. Works like a charm. I've even used the technique to trim "worn" ends, cut slots in screw heads, etc.

And if you don't have a Dremel tool, you can get a special hacksaw "blade" (it's more like a "cord" covered in hardened carbon particles) that will cut through the hardest of tool steels. They are readily available, check Home Depots and Ace Hardwares.

Also, you could call Yamaha and see if they'd be willing to send you an allen wrench or point you in the direction of a local dealer that might have one (music stores tend to accumulate large mountains of allen wrenches).
